Ahead of the world cup final between Australia and New Zealand, CricVerve has compiled a trans-tasman XI.
The team selection is based on the performances during this world cup. With the number of outstanding performers both teams have had in the tournament, the team sheet looks nothing short of exceptional.
Here is the XI:
Brendon McCullum: New Zeland skipper's attacking flare has been on show throughout the tournament, both in his batting, captaincy and fielding. His quick fire runs at the top have made the task for his middle order a whole lot easier. Talking about his captaincy, his all-out attack approach has reaped dividends for his team and has enabled him to bowl out teams despite the lack of a recognized 5th bowler.
Martin Guptill: The Auckland native had a good first match against Sri Lanka and then suffered a dip in form. However he raised his form in time against Bangladesh to ensure the kiwis remained unbeaten. He then went onto score an incredible 237* against West Indies to get an easy passage into the semis for his team.
Steven Smith: The future Australian captain has had an excellent six months. His performances in the knockout games have been nothing short of exceptional. He scored runs at will while others around him were finding it difficult to hang onto their wickets. In addition, his fielding and awareness (in Rahane's dismissal) have also been spot on.
Grant Elliot: The South African born man wouldn't be on this list had he not played the gutsy semi-final innings. Though he was afforded two chances by the South Africans later in his innings, the pressure of scoring in a crunch situation would have gotten to many.
Corey Anderson:The big hitter has been scoring regularly for the kiwis and played a great supporting role to Grant Elliot in the semi-final. Surprisingly he has been a revelation with the bowl, bagging 14 wickets in the tournament.
Glen Maxwell: As usual mad-max has been unforgiving with the bat, scoring the fastest century in the event alongside other valuable runs. He also proved his worth with the ball when he broke the threatening stand between Misbah-ul-Haq and Haris Sohail in the quarter-final.
Brad Haddin: The Aussie keeper has generally been safe behind the stumps, accounting for 13 dismissals in the tournament. He has also been vital to Australia calling correct decision reviews. He has also been effective in batting cameos across different matches, and importantly it was his last wicket partnership with Pat Cummins that helped Australia to a respectable total against New Zealand when the sides last met.
Daniel Vettori: Though this tournament has not been easy for the spinners, Daniel Vettori has been an exception to that rule. His induction at often tricky times for his team has worked wonders for them. Add to it the catch that he took to dismiss Marlon Samuels in the quarter-final.
Josh Hazlewood: Even though he was dropped after the first match, his performances when recalled in the knockouts have been truly commendable. He ripped through the Pakistani batting in both his spells and helped pile on the pressure on the Indians when they were going smooth.
Trent Boult: The pacer has had an excellent world cup so far. His knack for winding up opposition batting line-ups in destructive spells and his position at the top of wicket taking charts explains it all.
Mitchell Starc: His ferocious pace and ability to swing both the new and old ball has terrorized all his opposition. Not only has he been taking plenty of wickets, he has also proved very difficult to hit. He has an economy rate of less than 4 against all the sides he has faced in the tournament except
England.
